Winemaker, Timo Mayer’s Notes on the 2004 vintage

The 2004 growing season showed some of the best budburst and fruit set in decades. This necessitated fruit and shoot thinning. Some well-timed rains at veraison gave us higher than usual bunch weights.

The vintage started in the second week of April with some disease pressure due to autumn rains.

The grapes came into the winery with lower than usual sugar levels but good fruit intensity. The wines looked quite shy early on and seemed to take some time to open up.
In a nutshell, they seem to be lower alcohol, elegant, long lived wines.
