2008 marks 25 years since Gembrook Hill was established by Ian and June Marks. Gembrook Hill is now one of the oldest vineyards in the Upper Yarra sub-region. Just an hour east of Melbourne, with views of Mt Donna Buang, a backdrop of the Warburton ranges, red soil and a coveted north-easterly aspect, it is the perfect spot for cool climate winemaking.
Gembrook Hill’s wines are regarded as some of the most outstanding examples of their variety in Australia. They are crafted with an old-world winemaking mindset with low cropping, no irrigation and diligent viticulture management. The vines are now over 20 years old, and produce elegant wines with vibrant fruit flavour and balanced structure.
The Sauvignon Blanc possesses characteristics found in Sancerre, and is more austere than the typical examples of Australian and New Zealand savvy. The Pinot Noir has the elegance of old world Burgundy, and the Chardonnay is subtle with restrained oak flavours, and at quite the opposite spectrum of the oak-heavy Aussie chardonnay norm.
