Winemakers

Andrew Marks

At 15 he travelled to France as an exchange student and spent half of that time at Chateau la Croix de Louis, Castillon la Bataille, Bordeaux. He graduated from Roseworthy in 1997 and worked with Penfolds and Seppelt for 6 years. He has been involved in 7 overseas vintages, most recently at Celler Espelt on the Costa Brava, Spain. Other vintages include Etienne Sauzet in Puligny Montrachet, the Languedoc in 2002 and Sonoma County, USA in 2000. Not content with his roles as director of GHV with mother, June, and chief winemaker and viticulturist; Andrew has developed his own label, The Wanderer, which aims to deliver individual wines of flavour, character and balance. Furthermore, he has become a master distiller and producer of gin, under the label The Melbourne Gin Company. One busy man!

Shaun Thornton

We’re thrilled to welcome Shaun Thornton to the Gembrook Hill Vineyard team. Shaun was with us for vintage back in 2015 and now joins us full time. Shaun was a chef for 10 years having studied at William Angliss; spent a further 10 years as a wine estimator at Langton’s Wine Auctions whilst at the same time studying wine making at La Trobe University and working part time at the City Wine Shop. In 2014 he did a vintage with Antonio Sanz in Spain and worked most recently with Mac Forbes in the Yarra Valley. His enthusiasm and knowledge for all things related to wine and food and his great work ethic, ensure he will make an important contribution here at Gembrook Hill.
