2018 Pinot Noir

2018 has offered up a delicious vintage of Pinot Noir. The season was characterised by a generous crop balanced by extreme dryness experienced in the latter half of the season. It did not rain from Christmas until vintage in mid March. This ensured a fair degree of stress on our dry grown vineyard despite their extensive root systems and the result is that we have a tannin line not normally seen running through the estate pinot. Soupple and fresh while young, with characteristic Gembrook lift, this is a vintage sure to reward cellaring.

Vintage Details

Wines from Vintage 2018 are maturing well in barrel. 2018 was a tale of two seasons with some of the most challenging humid weather ever experienced during the growing season (Oct-Dec 2017) followed by exceptionally dry conditions after Christmas. We are very excited with the resulting wines but more on that in good time.

Gembrook Hill Pinot Noir 2018
Posted on 08 May 2020 by Campbell Mattinson, Winefront

Gembrook Hill Pinot Noir rarely disappoints.

It presents in its signature transparent way but the complexity is all there and so too is the length. This is an excellent wine. Undergrowth and cranberries, sweet herbs and woodsmoke, ripe cherry and a sourness about the edges. They could trademark this style; they turn it out each year as if it’s easy. A turn of tannin leads you out through the finish. It’s a garden of a wine, well tended, brimming with good health.
